Teacher Education Program Credential Information

Accreditation by external agencies assures a high-quality educator preparation program committed to continuous improvement and based on established standards. The UIW Teacher Education Program proudly holds state and national accreditation.

 

National Accreditation

AAQEP LogoThe University of the Incarnate Word is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The Teacher Education Department was first accredited by AAQQEP in Spring 2022, with full accreditation by AAQEP through December 31, 2028. Full accreditation acknowledges that a program prepares effective educators who continue to grow as professionals and have demonstrated a commitment and capacity to maintain quality.

State Accreditation

TEA logoThe UIW Teacher Education Department offers degree programs to prepare Texas certified teachers. Graduates of the UIW Teacher Education Program meet state licensure requirements established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The Dreeben School of Education was first accredited by the TEA in January 1973 and maintains accreditation. The most recent Continuing Approval Compliance Audit was conducted in December 2015. The Teacher Education Program's upcoming program review will be conducted in spring 2022.

Accreditation ratings are issued annually and are available on the TEA Accountability System for Education Preparation webpage. The UIW Teacher Education Program's performance for the past five years is provided.
