Department of Graphic Design
Welcome to the Department of Graphic Design at the University of the Incarnate Word. A department of the School of Media and Design, Graphic Design elevates students’ design and technical skills readying them for a career in graphic design, interactive design, or various fields related to design and visual communication.
Designers create the way we see and experience much of the world. From packaging design to logos and visual identity to web and app interfaces, designers translate systems and concepts into visual representations. UIW’s selective Graphic Design program is rigorous and designed to inspire every student to produce exceptional, creative and technically excellent work. As a result, it produces award-winning students who become graduates with fulfilling careers.
The program has small class sizes, a 16:1 classroom ratio. State of the art computer labs with industry standard software mean that students will have a real experience working with the tools they will use in their future careers before they even graduate. A team of dedicated faculty, who are active in the local design community, serve as mentors as much as educators.
Work done by students in the Graphic Design program has been recognized in regional, state, national, and international competitions including: AIGA Flux, AIGA Texas Show, DSVC National Student Show and Conference, CMYK Magazine, Logo Lounge, and the American Advertising Awards. Students can also get involved in such student groups as AIGA University of the Incarnate Word. UIW offers a student chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the largest and oldest organization for design professionals.
